Amber is a finalist in the Master’s Category, L’oreal Colour Trophy!!

Wow!!! We are so proud to announce that Amber has been selected as a finalist in the very prestigious L’oreal Colour Trophy! If that wasn’t enough… she has been selected in the Master’s Category. This category includes 10 of Canada’s top hairdressers, true Masters of their craft. And Amber is over the moon to be included in this list of talent. She will be heading to Toronto in early June for the live competition. Wish her luck!

Amber, Maggie, and Kate have just recently returned from a hair nerd roadtrip to Seattle! They attended the Trifecta Show hosted by Salon Services. They had the opportunity to see International Superstars in action: Kevin Murphy (hair guru and Vogue editorial stylist), Philip Wilson (Master stylist), and Angelo Seminara (3x British Hairstylist of the Year and creative stylist extraordinaire). It was a day of inspiration and creative energy! Amber stayed on for 2 more days of hands-on training with Kevin Murphy style master, David Glover (Day 1) and Davines Hair Colour Creative Genius, Edoardo Paludo, colourist for Angelo Seminara and creator of Flamboyage. It was an amazing journey and the girls came back super inspired!

A New Year, A New Colour!!!

We have decided to take our love for the planet even further by introducing a new brand to our salon. We are SO happy to offer Davines’ A New Colour to our Colour Bar. She is a finalist! 25 hairstylists around the globe have been chosen, only 4 in North America. And Amber is one!! What a year can do…

Happy New Year to you!! To take us into the new year, we have decided to showcase our competition collections from the year. As you may or may not know, this year has kept the Verve team VERY busy! Starting off the year, Amber won the Rowenta Beauty Challenge, a national styling competition. This earned her a spot as an Ambassador for Rowenta Beauty and a spot on the Backstage Team for Toronto Fashion Week F/W 2012. And then came time for Kelsey’s shoot for the Redken Cover Competition, she rocked some seriously luscious cover curls for that one! And in the Spring, Verve was named your favourite boutique hair salon and Amber was named #1 Hairstylist in the North Shore Outlook’s Readers Choice Awards! In June, the team moved on to their biggest shoot of the year… the Contessa Awards (the Canadian Hairstylist of the Year Awards) photo shoot. This was an amazing day with the entire Verve team on board to assist Amber and Maggie with their entries for the Newcomer of the Year (Maggie) and British Columbia Hairstylist and Multi-cultural Hairdresser of the Year (Amber) categories. Amber placed top 10 in the country in the Multi-cultural category. Then through out the summer Kelsey and Amber focused on the gents. They prepared several male models for the American Crew Face-Off Competition. And to complete the year, Amber’s Session Hairstylist of the Year finalist Collection was selected for the Salon Magazine’s Contessa Gallery Artist Feature. So, with all these portfolio photos, we thought we would love to share them with you. Please come down and check out the work of our team as they grace our walls!! A year’s worth of amazing team work that has pushed our creative boundaries and inspired each of us to reach greater heights in our craft. We are very proud to present our collections to you.

Holidays are Here!

Amber has been featured in the November/December issue of Salon Magazine. Salon Magazine is a national trade magazine that is coveted by hairstylists across the country. This is Amber’s first time being featured and she is feeling very excited and honored to have been chosen to be showcased. You can check out her spread on page 72 of the online version. See it here.

We are so proud of Maggie!! A couple of weeks ago she offered up her time and her expertise to give haircuts to those in need. She participated in an event at the Salvation Army North Vancouver in conjunction with Homelessness Action Week. This is her second year volunteering with the cause and when asked what she liked most about the experience she said “how grateful people can be for something as simple as a haircut.”. So amazing what a little bit of time and energy can do for the soul and those of others. Thanks Maggie!!

Amber named Semi-Finalist in Contessa Awards!

Amber has just been named a Semi-Finalist in the annual Contessa Awards for Multicultural Hairstylist of the Year. The Contessa Awards are a prestigious National Competition, essentially the Oscars of Canadian Hair. Being in the Semi-Finals places Amber in the top 10 across the country! Quite an honour! So please send your good vibes her way to make the finals, Top 5! At that point her photos will be released for all to see.

Amber is the Key Hair and Makeup for the upcoming Nicole Bridger show at Eco Fashion Week. With Kelsey acting as her Lead Assistant, contributing to the looks her talents as both a makeup and hair artist. Details of where to buy your tickets coming shortly! But we can tell you it is going to be an event!

We are looking for new team mates!! Our salon is growing and we are in need of some hairstylists. We are looking for at minimum 1 hairstylist with 5+ years experience and have room for one other with at minimum 3+ years. Sorry, all entry level positions are filled. Model Call!!

We are looking for hair models for an upcoming photo shoot for Competition. Ideal candidates must be photogenic and comfortable with the camera, as well as allow for the creativity of the hair style. There are several spots to fill and we are looking for long, medium and short hair. All models will be coloured and cut, and some may be given a modern perm. Please keep in mind this is for competition, so the looks are predetermined. Please email a snapshot and your contact info to amber@vervehairlounge.com. Linzo wins 1st Place in BC Competition!!

We are so proud to announce that Linzo was recently awarded first place in a live competition held at the annual Allied Beauty Association’s Convention!! Linzo has spent the last 2 months preparing her design and colour for the competition. This live competition brings out some of the province’s best emerging hairstylists. She executed her design, inspired by the Northern Lights, during a live competition with a time limit of 45 minutes. We are so proud of our team mate!! She will be heading to the Toronto ABA Convention in 2013 to compete against the winners in all provinces! Aside from jumping up and down with excitement, the team also took in some education, sitting in on a seminar with updo hairdresser extra-ordinaire Martin Parsons, and the Redken team of artists. It was a day in hair nerd heaven!

Vanessa Choot, editor of Modern Mix Vancouver Magazine, recently came in to experience the Verve service. She wrote an article on her experience and the Redken Chromatics line, as well as some other fun little tid bits. Check out her article here.
